It's official, I had never played these early versions of SF II, my Goddess what a kind of CPU is this? Capcom Quest of Street Fighter II: Turbo Hyper Fighting! The last update for CPS-1 board.
Just recapping, I promised to beat with 4 characters per time in the 5 classic versions! And now it's the time for Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim and Guile!
The first changes that I notice are the new attacks that some fighters have received. Chun-li with her Kikoken that looks like a Blue Yoga Fire, Blanka with his diagonal ball, E. Honda won the Sumo Splash and also Ryu and Ken with Air Tatsu!
For some reason the CPU does not use the Air Tatsumaki, maybe it was an extra addition that was scheduled later. But what we know is that these attacks and the higher speed of this version were inspired by the bootlegs versions.
I also do not know what was Capcom's idea for having changed the characters' original colors to the second player. Maybe it's just to differ the Champion Edition from this one... Zangief doesn't look so well with that green tongue, hahahah
I even thought that this version would be easier or more balanced, but I was wrong once again. The only one I really beat the game was Blanka, the others I had to use the states!
The game has some cheats, several times I had to calculating a route for the CPU does not predict my moves. It's very crazy, and I also very bad with these characters.
Some examples of these gimmicks happened to Blanka, like Zangeif lets you punish him using air roundhouse kick in the corner, Balrog will always jumps in you after a flying ball. And also the strangest of all, Blanka literally freezes if you use shock against him.
In Zangief's run I didn't even know what to do! I never played well with him and he's is too slow. At least his lariat pass through the spells, but if you use it a lot the CPU will change the projectile's speed.
Only now I realized that he's wearing a tank top in the character select photo. And honestly, I have never seen he using this shirt in game xD
Someone that I really got mad was with Dhalsim, the character's proposal is to do easily whiff punishes, but it does not happen here! The attacks always trade, and took more damage from me. But something that was improved was the throws that has combos, the CPU gives less tech.
To be honest I do not know if is my gamepad or something related to input, but I have a lot difficulty to do Guile's somersault. In the current games I don't have this problem, but in these versions, I always miss it.
This time the hardest character is Sagat, for sure. He didn't get any new attacks or something, but he is doing a zoning at the same level as Ryu from Champion edition! Just imagine how much I suffer to beat him with Zangief, only for the Try Hard ones!
The community always theorizes about who was the winner of the second World Warriors, but Capcom has never officially pronounced on this. Guile is the most accepted by the fans, for having a lore more related to Bison.
And well, that's it. This first trilogy versions wasn't made part of my childhood, I must have started to play SF or in the classic bootlegs versions or in the Super.
