Sometimes we just want to press some buttons. Capcom Quest of Devil Kings. Beating up hordes of enemies with legendary warriors.
Was the name Devil Kings really a reference to Devil May Cry?
For anyone who has studied a little bit about Sengoku period, you know that these characters are inspired by the great warriors of that era. So it's quite common to see some of them in other franchises.
Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors had already popularized the Musou genre in the east, perhaps that's why Capcom didn't adapt their classic Tenchi Wo Kurau franchise into a Musou. After all, both are inspired by the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
The first thing that catches the eye is this wonderful opening. Capcom signed the band T.M. Revolution to make the theme of almost every game in the franchise. It's impossible for me to hear a song from them and not remember the games xD
Honestly there's not much to say about the gameplay, each character has their moveset that can change specials before missions. Otherwise, just press the attack button several times to beat the game.
90% of the time your objective is to cross the entire map until you find the boss. You may even have to kill captains first, but it's no big deal.
A strong feature in Sengoku is the amount of characters available to play. There are 16 in total in the Japanese version and my favorite was Shingen Takeda!
On the other hand, Mitsuhide Akechi is completely HORRIBLE and slow! I really hope that in the next games he gets some buffs, here I suffered a little to beat the game with him.
The mission I found the most complicated was Yoshihiro Shimazu's. You have to kill all captains until he appears. Not enough, he gives a little work to be defeated...
And finally, there are some anime cutscenes, a prelude to what would come in 2009.
