Onimusha Tactics (2003): The Onimaru's Army | Capcom Quest #331

I love this RPG style. Capcom Quest of Onimusha Tatics! Stop Nobunaga's plans once again.

It's a shame that this game was not so well known, it's an excellent tactical rpg.

All popular mechanics of this genre are present here, each character walks a certain number of spaces, and the same works for their attacks.

In addition, Capcom has done an excellent job bringing elements from the Onimusha franchise. From absorbing souls to leveling up your equipment, using the classic counter "Issen", even a variation of the Dark Realm, here called the Phantom Realm.

But I've to admit that the game is too accessible. You can usually choose up to 8 warriors for the quests, and that makes things a LOT easier. Out of 45 missions I lost in only 4.

Here we control Onimaru who seeks to defeat Nobunaga after he has attacked his village. As the story progresses he finds new allies, and also awakens his Onimusha powers.

Four of these allies receive the spirits of celestial animals (phoenix, tortoise, tiger and dragon) and I highly recommend leaving them always in the party, especially Magochi and Mitsuhide.

Often, the difficulty lies in reaching the enemies on the map, rather than defeating them. There are even missions with limited turns for just that...

In summary, this is a very welcome title for guys who loved Final Fantasy Tatics or the great Bomberman Wars.

2003 was not an easy year
