Gogandantess still the best tokusatsu! Capcom Quest of Onimusha: Blade Warriors. That one with the legendary encounter of Samanosuke and Jubei.
Why a game like this wasn't so well received by the public? It's a Samurai Smash Bros!
I don't know if the plot is canon, but it takes place 10 years after the first game, with the characters being sent into the future after the events of Onimusha 2.
All the main characters have a story, the goal of most of them is to make Samanosuke and Jubei join forces to finish off Nobunaga.
Unlockable characters have the same stories/routes. The good guys face Nobunaga and the bad guys face Jubei and Samanosuke.
I think the most important story is from Keijiro Maeda, the little Yumemaru from the first Onimusha. He finds the most important characters and also quotes about the time travel in the game.
The gameplay is the same for everyone, what changes are the special animations. The real challenge is to level your character at level max, for that you'll have to beat the game a few times.
There are even hidden places for you to pick up new weapons, in addition to the classic Dark Realm that also has prizes at the end.
The only thing I was upset about was not having a good ending. You defeat Nobunaga, show a text with an evil laugh and that's it. Otherwise game is 10/10
