After all, who never fought at school? Capcom Quest of Rival Schools: United by Fate! One of the most charismatic fighting games that Capcom has ever made.
The first episode of Rival Schools has 2 more updates, both released exclusively for Psone. The one I will talk about today is the arcade version.
The story here, in addition to the classic fights between schools, is to solve a series of kidnappings that are happening. It's up to you to find out who is responsible!
Rival's characters are so cool and with personality, that I'm sad to know that there aren't many games. And I didn't even play the story mode to really know each other's lore...
So for you can watch this story mode, the game forces to choose characters from the same school. However I decided to do this mode in the next updates. For that, I had to unlock the "Free Select", so I could play with any team.
60fps in Low Poly! This is the highlight of its gameplay. It may even have a graphical improvement over Street Fighter EX, but 60fps in fighting games is DOPE!
Another difference is that we don't have medium attacks (Strong and Forward), but the launcher mechanics of the versus series is present! Unfortunately the CPU dodges very well, the aerial combos are too nice.
Still on the versus series, we have doubles specials! If for example, your team is Hinata and Sakura and you are playing with Hinata, the team special will be done by Sakura (which is a Shun Goku Satsu).
Let's just say that some KoF characters were honored here. The highlight certainly goes to Roy who has the projectile that resembles Terry's power wave xD
The goalkeeper Roberto was the one I liked the most, due to the range of his attacks and also because the CPU, even broken, accepts his projectile a lot.
Speaking of CPU, sometime I just use only weak kicks over and over again. If you notice that is too hard, try this technique \o/
The game offers two endings, the real you have to defeat the supposed boss with a double special. And again I left it for the next updates, here I only did the bad endings...
I want to make it clear that I have a lot to talk about of this series! This is one would make an excellent anime for having very charismatic characters and an interesting story. Not to mention the beautiful arts they made for the game. Anyway, I'll talk more in the next one.
