I don't think there's a Blue Bomber episode with so much news. Capcom Quest of Mega Man 7! The game that was made in JUST 3 MONTHS.
I want to make it clear that even with Kazuhiro Tsuchiya's interview saying that this game was made in 3 months, I still don't believe it.
I mention this because this game has many new things, besides the obvious beautiful 16 bit graphics (which for me is the best version of Rock until today).
Starting with the bosses, at first you can only choose 4 instead of the classic 8. Not that this is big news, but this mechanic has been used in 2 future episodes.
In ALL stages there is some hidden item, such as the letters of the Rush Adapter. This time the Rush armor is a fusion of Mega Man 6's "Flying Armor" along with Gameboy's Mega Man 5 "Mega Arm"!
We also have Rush Search, which is essential if you want to save a few bucks and look for upgrades in stages! It's not intuitive to find these upgrades, but the internet is here to show xD
The Auto store has arrived in the series (feature that still exists today). Not a big news, because we already had a store in the Gameboy series, but if you don't find the upgrades in the stages just buy with him (but you have to find the Auto's screw before).
To get the Proto Shield (I never used it) you have to find Proto Man in specific places and then fight against him to get his shield. Finding him at the Turbo Man stage is also NOTHING intuitive...
Almost forgetting but you can also save our dear Beat!
But of course, nobody gets more attention in this episode than Bass and his robotic wolf Treble! At first he seems to be a good guy, but then shows be a rival of our hero. I always found his design amazing, even more fused with his friend.
But what most touched me about this game, besides the beautiful OST, was the fight against Wily. In my opinion, this boss is the hardest from ALL franchise history (including other sagas).
And there is one more news, when you beat the game a password appears, typing it and holding L, R + Start will enter the versus mode (with fighting games commands). Where we have the debut of Bass as a playable character!
As usual, we once again had the Robot Masters Contest and it was the biggest in history with over 220,000 participants.
This was Kazuhiro Tsuchiya's first job at Capcom, the director of Mega Man 11. He was one of the project's programmers, and as I said, it's hard to believe that such a complete game was made in 3 months, but that's what the story tells us.
