Slipstream (1995): A Capcom game made on System 32! | Capcom Quest #147

An example where the story of creation is more interesting than the final product. Capcom Quest of Slipstream. The Capcom game made on System32... And for Brazil!

Before doing Capcom Quest I didn't know that Capcom had worked on racing games... And this one was made for brazilians.

It's a formula 1, has 4 very famous tracks like the legendary Monaco, several cars (including one in honor of Brazil) and a very fast gameplay!

The game has that arcade style, it's easy to control the cars at high speeds, especially with those cars that have high handling.

I took a while to realize that the game has gears (low and high), is a transparent symbol in the corner of the screen indicating which one you are, but honestly the low only serves for starts.

We also have Slipstream mechanics, which is nothing more than a Turbo that you use automatically after you arrive over 380km/h.

There are 3 game modes, Championship being the main, reaching at least third you advance to the next stage.

What I don't understand is why Capcom decided to program this game on SEGA's System 32, maybe because of the genre. SEGA always had a reputation for being "Blast Processing" and this game has a lot things on screen and it's pretty fast. But couldn't CPS II stand it?

In 1995 we already had a Capcom representative in Brazil. The Romstar was responsible not only for distributing Capcom games, but also for other companies (in the future signed only with Capcom). It was thanks to that the game came "translated" xD

Unfortunately Capcom made only 150 board of this game, the reason may be two: The first is that the game was made only for the Brazilian public, as Formula 1 was the second most popular sport in the country!

And the second, and saddest, is that months before its release we had said goodbye to an idol.

Mecha doing Shoryuken? We like it!
