It was kind of risky not use X-Men, or Spider-Man in the first game with Marvel, don't you think? Capcom Quest of The Punisher, that's right, the beginning of the partnership that you love.
It's probably that it was Marvel who came to Capcom to start this partnership by doing the Punisher game. And as beat em up was the company's most popular genre, the decision was made. But honestly, I did not think it was the best option to use this character.
I know few things about the Punisher story, but I know that guns are their main weapons, and well, we're talking about a beat em up, games focused on short range, and that game is no different.
Do not misunderstand me, the game is great, I just find it strange among countless characters, they just choose one focused on shooting.
At beginning, we already see that sprites well detailed and the background are the best point of the game, not to mention the several weapons that it is possible to use in the stage. Yes, of course, Capcom would not deprive the character just because it is in a short-range genre, we have guns here, and in some parts they have infinite ammo, with a some time limit.
The game has 2 players option, and the second character is Nick Fury. Unfortunately both have the same skills, just the special attack is another animation, but has the same purpose.
There are 6 stages and the final boss is the great Kingpin. Speaking about the bosses, they are not a big challenge, to tell you the truth, the game has a nice difficulty.
One fun fact is that whenever Capcom made ports of their games, they were always released to Nintendo platform. However, interestingly this game port was exclusive to Genesis.
